When the world changes, so must the way we gather

We believe that online meetings don't have to be something we simply endure. When facilitated well, they can actually bring us to life.

A person having a virtual meeting

With rising fuel costs, many of us are starting to work from home… again.

There’s a quiet shift happening again.

With rising fuel costs and increasing pressure on time, travel, and budgets, many of us are finding ourselves back in our homes, meeting, collaborating and making decisions through screens.

For some, this feels familiar. For others, it brings a subtle sense of fatigue… or even resistance. Because if the last few years taught us anything, it’s that online meetings can either drain us or they can bring us to life.

And the difference is rarely the platform; it’s the way the space is held.

Online can feel ‘human’ too

Many of us are still carrying the imprint of the COVID-era online work. The long days. The disengagement. The sense of speaking into the void. Or being in conversations that felt harder, flatter or more fragile than they should have.

So when we imagine “more online work,” it can come with a quiet “not again…” But at Groupwork Centre, we have seen time and time again that online spaces don’t have to feel that way, they can be deeply engaging, connective, and transformative – when they are facilitated well.

Yes, we believe that facilitating online is not simply a translation of face-to-face skills. It’s a distinct craft.

It asks us to exercise many (if not all) of our facilitation skills. We are required to have the ability to read energy without seeing the full room, to design an engaging session, be comfortable working with silence, pacing, and presence in new ways, while also trying to navigate difference, tension, and conflict without physical cues.

And when we have created psychological safety across distance and diversity, something remarkable happens – people lean in, conversations deepen, collaboration becomes possible – even across distance.

A skill set for the times we’re in

At Groupwork Centre, we’ve spent decades supporting people to lead, facilitate, and collaborate in complexity. And one thing is clear: the ability to hold meaningful online spaces is no longer optional. It’s a core practice for these times.

Whether you're leading a team working remotely, facilitating across organisations or communities, navigating complex or sensitive conversations, or simply wanting to bring more life and connection into your meetings, this is a skill set that changes how you work and how people experience you.

Therefore, we’re offering our Online Facilitation Skills Training designed specifically for those wanting to build confidence, capability, and presence in virtual spaces.

We promise you that this is not a passive webinar. We are asking you to experience and practice it, as we made the session grounded in real work challenges. We held with the same care and depth as our face-to-face programs

We are hoping that in the end, our sessions will give you tools you can use immediately and a deeper understanding of how to design and guide online spaces. This could bring you greater confidence to navigate complexity, participation, and group dynamics

And perhaps most importantly: a renewed sense that online spaces can actually feel human.

For those who can’t make it to Melbourne, we know not everyone can travel to our in-person programs right now. This is a beautiful opportunity to connect with our work from wherever you are. No commute. No fuel costs. Just you, your curiosity, and a group of people committed to doing this work well.

We’d love to have you

The world is asking us to collaborate differently. To bridge distance. To work across differences. To stay connected in uncertain times. The question isn’t whether we’ll meet online. It’s how.

And whether those spaces will feel like something we endure or something that truly supports the work we’re here to do. We’d love to have you join us.
