Albizia Akbar is a writer, storyteller, and communications practitioner based in Melbourne. He currently serves as the Marketing and Communications Lead at Groupwork Centre, where he shapes strategic communications, strengthens brand identity, and supports the organisation’s mission to grow collaborative leadership and inclusive facilitation.

An Australia Awards Scholar and Master of Marketing Communications candidate at the University of Melbourne, Albizia brings over seven years of experience across media, education, and public-sector communication. His career spans editorial leadership, digital storytelling, and community engagement – with a consistent focus on making complex ideas clear, accessible, and meaningful.

Before joining Groupwork, Albizia worked with the Australian Government’s Australia Awards in Indonesia, leading digital communication efforts to highlight scholar stories, alumni impact, and public diplomacy initiatives. He also previously served as Editor-in-Chief at Kok Bisa, Southeast Asia’s largest science-education media platform, where he oversaw editorial strategy and helped bring engaging, evidence-based content to millions of learners.

Albizia is passionate about accessible and inclusive communication, particularly how digital platforms can reduce barriers to learning and support people to participate more fully in their communities. At Groupwork, he applies this lens to help connect with clients, partners, and alumni, and to share the transformative work of facilitation through stories, campaigns, and strategic initiatives.
